Mates4Mates Family Recovery Centres (FRCs) are designed to provide injured Defence Force Mates and their families with a space where they feel welcome, safe and have the opportunity to connect with like-minded people.
- Drop-In environment of FRC’s (coffee areas, recreational games areas etc.)
- Regular social BBQ’s
- Family Fun Days (particularly in school holidays)
- Group social activities
- Peer support
Our Family Recovery Centres offer varying types of social connection activities (depending on the environments functionality).
Regardless of the type of activity, each centre provides opportunities for Mates and their families to participate in scheduled social engagement activities, and creates a space for natural social connections to take place.
With many Queensland and Tasmanian Mates and families living far from our Brisbane, Townsville and Hobart Family Recovery Centres, we developed an Outreach model to reach them.
In order to grow and sustain a presence in areas such as Cairns, Toowoomba, Rockhampton, Wide Bay, the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, Mates4Mates has appointed a number of Volunteer Liaison Officers (VLO’s).
As Mates themselves, it’s the VLO’s role to assist Mates and their families in these
regions in accessing our services.
Much of the initial outreach is through Social Connection (coffee groups, BBQ’s). To find out whether there are any services in your area, contact us today.
